NTSC: National Television System Committee, is the analog television system that is/was used in most of the Americas, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Burma, and some Pacific island nations and territories. It was developed in 1941.

PAL: Phase Alternating Line, is an analogue television encoding system used in broadcast television systems in large parts of the world.

Secam: Sequential Color with Memory, is an analog color television system first used in France. It is, historically, the first European color television standard.

HDTV:High-Definition Television, is a digital television broadcasting system with higher resolution than traditional television systems .

Mono:Monaural or monophonic sound reproduction (often shortened to mono) is a single-channel. Typically there is only one microphone, one loudspeaker. Channels are fed from a common signal path.

It remains the standard for radiotelephone communications, telephone networks, and induction loops for use with hearing aids.

Stereo:
Stereophonic sound, commonly called stereo, is the reproduction of sound using two or more independent audio channels through a number of loudspeakers in such a way as to create the impression of sound heard from various directions, as in natural hearing.

Stereo recordings are used in FM broadcasting and Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and in television systems.

Surround sound: Is a wide range of techniques used for enhanceing the sound quality of a audio source, with audio channels reproduced by added descrite speakers, this gives the impression of sound surrounding you.
